Mini-me!

My niece, Lilah

For a long time, I never wanted children. I never wanted a marriage. I wanted love. I wanted to be with someone. But marriage and children were commitments that I was not confident I could fulfill and keep. They say you are the product of your parents. Therefore, would not a divorced family create more divorces? Would I want to be a divorcee straddled with children? It seemed ridiculous!

Mr. Darcy and Me

I <3 Mr. Darcy

The first time I heard of Pride and Prejudice, I was 13 years old. It was a boring weekend and I decided to watch TV. We didn’t grow up with cable and a million channels so it was PBS, my turn-to-trusted network! They were airing the 1960s black and white version of Pride and Prejudice. I was hooked! I went to the library in search for book to read it because I wanted more. It’s so different from the movie—but so much better. And that was the first time I fell in love. With Mr. Darcy—at the tender age of 13.

My mother dislikes them. But when my friend got a super cute pet and I got to play with him, I thought I could do this. I could own a pet and care for it!

Patience and Passion

Patience is not my forte.

Though it seems like I can handle certain things with an even-temper, I’m a far cry from the model of angelic patience.

Since patience doesn’t get me through to the end of my projects, the secret sauce is actually passion. Passion helps me through the tough times of designer’s block, non-constructive criticism, and my own self doubt.

Brown is my Skin

One day, I was I Sephora with my friend buying make up. I wanted to try out this new Smashbox CC cream that claims it color corrects acne scars. Upon arrival, there are only 5 colors: fair, light, light medium, medium, and dark. As I stood there with my friend, who I should mention is extremely dark skin, she knew right off the bat, she was a dark color. If you looked at us, there’s a huge difference in our color tone. But the color cream that matched me was the darkest foundation—the same as hers!
